The “American Gigolo” star says Ellen DeGeneres hurt her feelings – but that’s not why she turned down the belated invitation.
Ellen DeGeneres featured on Rosie O’Donnell An eponymous talk show, however the opposite has never happened in Ellen’s entire 20 years. So what happened between them?
Andy Cohen I tried to get to the bottom of things when Rosie dropped “Watch What Happens Live,” and the situation turned out to be a little more complicated than it might first seem — but it started with Elaine hurting Rosie’s feelings.
As Rosie explained, the moment came shortly after her top-rated show took off and Elaine began the career that would become the highest-rated show. As I vividly remembered all these years later, it was the way Eileen responded to a question from Larry King.
Impression of the late host, Rosie asked, “What happened to Rosie O’Donnell? Her show went down the tube. She came out as a lesbian and was gone.”
She then said that she was quoting Eileen’s exact response to Larry’s question, which was, “I don’t know Rosie. We’re not friends.”
Rosie remembered turning to her friend at the time, Kelly Carpenter, and asked, “Did you just hear that or was it a hallucinatory auditory voice?”
She said to Andy, “I’m in love, no, that’s what happened, and I hurt my feelings as a kid and I never got over it,” and she obviously didn’t because after all these years, she still remembers her so vividly.
It’s especially noteworthy because when Elaine was about to come out as gay on her sitcom – and in real life – she appeared on Rosie and joked that her character would come out as “Lebanese.”
But, as Andy was quick to point out, this explains why Rosie has feelings for it, but it doesn’t explain why the show never invites her as a guest. As it turns out, they did – it took them a long time to do so.
“I was going to go on SMILF,” Rosie said, referring to the 2017-19 Showtime series. “But I wanted to bring someone with me because I thought it might be a little less awkward and they didn’t want to do that.”
However, Rosie made it clear that she does not harbor any ill feelings for Elaine, saying, “I wish her all the best in her life and to be healthy.”
Her feelings were not positive towards her Elisabeth Hasselbeck, someone else you once shared your screen with and you haven’t spoken to in years and years. In fact, Rosie said that she and Elizabeth haven’t spoken since the 2007 split-screen battle “the view” Which led to Rosie resigning on how to handle it.
A caller asked her about recent comments she made after Elizabeth recently returned as a guest on “The View” in which she mocked the First Lady’s acknowledged penchant for leaving Post-It notes by wearing notes critical of President Biden.
“I came out with little notes,” Rosie said. It’s like, ‘Here’s the Post-It notes I have for Joe Biden. You know, “Joe, the gas is so high,” Joe, how does this work for you? “Joe, hello, Joe.” I was like [eugghh!] I wish I was there to throw a sock on her or something.”
Soon after Elizabeth returned in early August, Rosie moved to tik tok For sharing her thoughts after seeing her friend turned foe, calling it “weird” and saying, “I remembered why I don’t want to watch it with her anymore.”
