Why is this movie so mysterious?

As a fan of spy movies and TV shows like Tehran And the slow horses On the Apple TV Plus, I was naturally excited by the news that Apple had pushed a good chunk of the change to make it happen. Argyle – A star-studded luxury spy thriller – to his streaming device, sometime in the year 2023.

The film’s cast, based on an upcoming book of the same name, includes pop star Dua Lipa, as well as the witcher Henry Cavill. We’ll also see Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson in the film, which appears to be about a novelist who was once a super spy and now suffers from amnesia.

I say “apparently,” because that’s the thing. There is a strange mystery surrounding this movie and its source. Long story short, no pun intended, what the iPhone maker bought here is the rights to make a $200 million Apple TV Plus movie from a novel from 1) first time writer His name is Elly Conway with 2) It almost does not exist of any kind online. And it gets even weirder.

Plus Apple spent a huge amount of money adapting something from a very obscure writer, for the first time – he barely has a digital footprint, beyond 4) Blank Instagram account No posts, no followers (Tweet embed) – the book that Argyle However, it will not be published until next year. In fact, this Apple TV Plus deal was offered with the power of 5) simply manuscript project.

This book was actually supposed to be published this month (September 29). But that has been postponed until March 30, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And while there isn’t a landing page on Amazon for the book yet, there is he is one for Kindle German Edition. The release date, at least for this Kindle release, lists January 10th.

Other than the above Instagram account, the only other facts available online about “Elly Conway” are as follows:

A two-sentence resume is available at Argyle publisher, Random Penguin House: “Elli Conway is the author of the much-anticipated thriller, Argyle. She lives in the US and is currently working on the next installment in the series.” This page also lists the publication date mentioned above, March 30, 2023.

What we know

Of course, the Internet has some theories. But first let’s summarize what we know for sure about the movie.

Film director Matthew Vaughn (from Kingsman movies and X-Men: First Class) praised the manuscript draft when Apple first announced Argyle. “When I read this early draft of the manuscript, I felt it was the most original and incredible spy franchise since Ian Fleming wrote in the 1950s,” he said at the time. “This will reinvent the espionage genre.”

in Apple’s sneak peek performance event In March of this year, the company also released a snippet of a flash and you’ll miss it Argyle, as part of the Apple TV Plus zip reel. You’ll find it at around the 3:20 mark in the YouTube video embedded below:

One of the most interesting theories about all this online is that Conway is actually a pseudonym for a creator with a track record, which seems like a better explanation for why Apple TV Plus supported a project like this, from the first time. Writer in such a big way.

JK Rowling being “Elly Conway” is one of the most interesting assumptions made in light of all of this on Twitter and Reddit. Conclusion I certainly can’t blame people for coming to it, especially since it’s been written under a pseudonym before. However, another prevailing theory is that this is all some kind of marketing ploy.

Or, even, that some kind of favoritism is masked with this whole charade. This theory calls to mind a The Hollywood Reporter Investigationsince 2017, in the mystery “Rebecca Blunt” writer-director Stephen Soderbergh Movie Logan Lucky. As it turns out, there is no such person in existence – the article indicated that Soderbergh’s wife is the possible writer of Logan Lucky. Hopefully Apple will clear the puzzle here soon, one way or another.
