This week’s news that American rapper RnB Rock has been Shot dead during a robbery at a chicken and waffle restaurant In Los Angeles it became the highest searched on Google in New Zealand, and one of the biggest topics of discussion and conversation on social media.
The rapper, whose full name is Rakim Allen, had previously collaborated with Ed Sheeran and Chance the Rapper on the song Cross me, but PnB Rock wasn’t a major chart-topping artist.
The father of two’s most successful single was his 2016 song Selfish, which peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 100.
Chances are, had it not been for Tuesday’s fatal shooting, not many people would have heard of PnB Rock. So why did his death drive the Internet into a frenzy? When it comes to this particular story, it’s all about the controversy over whether or not the rapper has been targeted via social media, and the internet is going crazy because of it.

Girlfriend’s Instagram post
Shortly before the shooting in Los Angeles, rapper girlfriend Stephanie Bunhewan posted a story on her since-deleted Instagram locating the couple.
This story became the topic of Twitter and reddit discussions. One side are those who claim that the post led to the targeting of rappers, and LAPD said the Instagram post “may have led to” to murder.
Others, though, point to the insensitivity of blaming Bounheuan who just witnessed the shooting of her partner and the father of her child. Many also point out that the couple was in a notoriously dangerous part of Los Angeles, and his car and jewelry could have made him a target regardless of the social media posts.
Even the leading artists of RnB and the rap world got into the debate. On Twitter on Tuesday, Cardi B said the killers would not have checked Bounheuan’s Instagram.
“It is irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should send her and his family nothing but love at this time,” she tweeted.
Outspoken rapper Nicki Minaj wrote a tweet referring to Pop Smoke, a The American rapper who was murdered in 2020 After accidentally posting his address on an Instagram story.
“After Pop Smoke, we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations where we are.”
Some users report that the rapper himself posted a story that has since expired on his social media hours before the fatal shooting wearing the jewelry for which he was stolen.
As for Aline’s girlfriend? Her Instagram account has been deactivated. An unverified account was created claiming her backup account.

The disturbing footage of the rapper after he was shot by a patron at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Inglewood was captured and posted on Reddit and Twitter shortly after the theft.
The footage, which shows the rapper unconscious on the restaurant floor as the staff tries to help him, has been shared and discussed countless times on Twitter, and continues to make the rounds.
“Video of PnB Rock getting in his blood should never have made it to the internet,” one user wrote in a tweet that was retweeted more than 20,000 times on Wednesday.
“We’re too drugged for this nonsense and we lack decency. He has a family you shouldn’t see that. Not everything is supposed to be shared. Damn it.”
PnB Rock interview talks about recent theft fears
A week before his death, the rapper spoke with DJ Akademiks in an interview about a recent feud with suspected gang members and his fear that it could get dangerous.
“A week ago.. PNB Rock talked about a previous situation where he felt some people were trying to do something to him,” Academics tweeted with the interview clip.
In the clip, PnB Rock said he felt targeted and urged his girlfriend to run away from the situation but she wasn’t worried. He also said he felt lucky to have avoided theft all his life.
“I’ve never been robbed in my life. I’ll never say ’cause I’m not superstitious or nothing like that, but I’ve never been robbed,” he said.
The interview gained momentum on social media, both for the timing, and the fact that the rapper talked about his girlfriend’s relaxed attitude toward the gang members.
