Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, provides insight into the company’s faltering efforts in his keynote speech at GTC. Besides Omniverse Cloud, there are new hardware and features.
Nvidia sees the metaverse as a 3D evolution of the Internet. The company’s focus is currently primarily onIndustrial metaverse. “ Digital twins for factories, simulated rail networks, simulating radio towers, training bots in simulation, collaborating in 3D development, and other enterprise use cases for connected virtual spaces.
Huang said that today’s Internet consists of HTML web pages viewed through a browser. The metaverse, the 3D Internet, connects virtual 3D worlds described in US dollars (description of the global landscape) and displayed through a simulation engine.
He said Nvidia’s Omniverse is a platform for developing and running metaverse applications.
“Omniverse is a large-scale, real-time 3D database. It is a shared 3D world,” said the CEO of Nvidia. “Omniverse is a US dollar-based network. It connects 3D worlds. “
There are now 700 companies and 200,000 people using Omniverse. This includes transportation, retail, telecommunications, and the energy sector. Nvidia’s list includes AT&T, BMW, PepsiCo, Siemens, Lockheed Martin, Industrial Light & Magic, and Amazon Robotics. 150 other software partners support Omniverse.
Nvidia Omniverse Cloud as a SaaS product
To give more companies and individuals access to Omniverse, Nvidia has launched the Ominiverse Cloud. The service is designed to take advantage of technology from Geforce Now, such as low-latency streaming for interactive 3D graphics experiences across high-end devices in 100 countries.
Build a 3D workflow with a single click and take advantage of all the Omniverse features, such as physics simulation, ray tracing, and AI features, without the need for powerful edge hardware.
Early adopters such as Siemens, RIMAC, and WPP have already announced the use of Omniverse Cloud. WPP wants to use the cloud service for marketing services for the auto industry, for example. Nvidia has also announced container deployments, new developer toolkits for neural rendering, for example, and a new deployment portal.
As part of GTC, Nvidia also plans to display the first examples of web-based US dollar trials. It also comes with Siemens JT support and is a plug-in that unlocks Omniverse for all CAD workflows.
Nvidia’s OVX platform for digital twins
Aside from the numerous software announcements, Nvidia has also shown off new hardware. Huang said Omniverse is a new form of computing platform and therefore needs a new computer system.
This system consists of three components: RTX Build, Design and Engineering computers, OVX servers that connect to a Nucleus database and run virtual world simulations, and Nvidia’s graphics delivery network via Geforce Now as the gateway to the Omniverse.
Nvidia’s second generation OVX platform is the metaverse counterpart to the HGX H100 AI platform. Instead of AI computations, OVX is accelerating metaverse applications such as digital twins. The second generation of OVX is expected to be available in early 2023 and is based on eight new generation L40 GPUs from Ada Lovelace. For the Omniverse platform, OVX handles graphics intensive virtual world simulation, while HGX handles AI workloads.

As part of GTC, several companies have demonstrated how to use Omniverse. There were some examples shown during the keyword. Heavy.ai is building Omniverse, a framework for digital twins for telecom companies. According to Nvidia, this enables companies to better plan for building and operating networks.
Lowe’s, showcased the retail industry’s first digital twin. With a digital version of the store, the company better understands sales performance and tests thousands of store layouts, simulates customer flows from historical data using artificial intelligence, or adjusts individual shelves and integrates data from different stores.
Digital information can also be viewed by employees in augmented reality using glasses such as the Magic Leap 2. The digital twin thus becomes an AR version, superimposed on reality.
Deutsche Bahn also used Omniverse. Digital Rail Germany (DSD) division is building the first nationwide digital twin to simulate automated train operations across an entire network.
With its realistic and physically correct simulated version, DSD aims to develop high-performance perception, prevention, and management systems to detect and optimally respond to irregular situations in daily rail operations. Examples include fallen logs or people on paths. The ultimate goal is a fully automated train network.
