Every week in this column, we highlight videos that you can watch online to improve your game.
However, some people learn best by reading or listening, and there are several new books published every month about pickle ball. There are also many podcasts! Today we highlight some of the headlines that may be of interest.
The book “Pickleball Doubles: Mastering the Fastest Growing Game in America Using Accurate Tips, Techniques and Advanced Doubles Strategies to Win the Game with Your Partner” by Dennis Hall, a certified coach in Queens, New York, was published last month. It covers basics like grammar, footwork, and wall practice. Hall helpfully addresses topics such as, “Why doesn’t the ball go where you shoot?” and “how to deal with a power player.” it’s a $7.99 on Amazon for a paper print, or just 99 cents on a Kindle.
“Zen and the Art of Pickleball” is another new book that came out last month. It’s by Mike Lee, a Colorado pickle ball coach. Lee says, “If you can remain calm, maintain your focus, and remain relaxed during a pickle ball game, you will find a lot of success, both internally and externally. “. The book is free with Kindle Unlimited, or $7.99 in paperback.
I take frequent road trips, and enjoy listening to audiobooks. Not many titles related to blended ball are available in audiobook format, but this upcoming title caught my eye. “Pickleball Is Life: The Complete Guide to Feed Your Obsession,” by Erin Hugh, will be released in both print and on Audible next month. It will include interviews with members of three “founding families” from Bainbridge Island, Washington, who were instrumental in launching the pickle. Depending on the format, Prices start at $11.99 The release date is October 22.
Also coming next month is “Pickleball for Dummies”, which is part of the popular Dummies collection of books. In 448 pages looks comprehensive and Written by pickle ball coach Moe Nard and a guy named Carl Landau. Starting at $15.
Podcast Pickle Ball
While audiobooks on Buckeyes are scarce, podcasts certainly aren’t. Here are three things worth checking out:
Pickles problems. Mark Renison answers your questions about all things blended. Final episodes include themes like proper grips and different options for your third shot. Episodes are about 20 minutes long. You can even record a question using the voice memo on your phone and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
Pickled Fireball Podcast It is now 180 strong rings. It often features professionals and tutors and focuses on educational tips, industry news, player profiles, and inspiring stories. She has a related magazine and comes out once or twice a week, with episodes lasting 20-30 minutes.
pickles cure It is released weekly and each episode lasts about 15 minutes. It is less focused on the pros and more on tips to improve your game. It is run by Tony Roig whose coaching practice targets people 50 and over.
Subscribe to Senior Games: The 2023 Palm Desert Senior Games and International Sports Festival from January 30 to February 5 is approaching.
